I believe having a space dedicated to providing you with a place to seek comfort and quiet at is essential for your home. If you’re someone who has kids or works from home, this is for you.

I work from home so it’s hard to separate work from my home life since, well, work IS my home life now. I combat this by having a dedicated space in my home that I can go to and relax. Mine isn’t very fancy, but it gets the job done. It helps my mind get out of work mode, and it’s also just a nice spot to exist in whenever I feel overwhelmed. You could create a space for you to do the same, or to do things like exercise, yoga, or if you don’t have an extra room to use, you could make your bathroom a bit cozier and “spa-like” so you can amp up your self-care game.

It’s easy to get caught up in work and life and forget to give yourself some “me-time.” Some time by yourself can be very healthy and can help you reset your brain and get you out of any funks you might be in.

Here are my tips for creating your own wellness space:

-    Choose a Dedicated Area: It doesn't have to be an entire room. A corner of your bedroom, a section of your living room, or even a part of your balcony can work. The key is to have a spot that is distinct and separate from your work or common living areas.

-    Keep it Clutter-Free: A clean space promotes a clear mind. Keep your wellness area organized and free of unnecessary items. Use things like baskets or shelves to keep things tidy.

-    Incorporate Nature: Adding plants can enhance the ambiance and improve air quality. Consider low-maintenance plants like succulents or air-purifying plants like peace lilies and snake plants. However, be sure to do your research if you have pets. Some plants are extremely toxic to cats and dogs.

-    Comfort is Key: Make sure you have comfortable seating. This could be a plush chair, a bean bag, or a pile of cozy cushions and blankets. Comfort helps in relaxation and makes the space inviting.

-    Personal Touches: Decorate the space with items that bring you joy and peace. This could be your favorite books, art pieces, candles, or even a small fountain for the soothing sound of running water.

-    Lighting Matters: Opt for soft, warm lighting. Avoid harsh fluorescent lights. Consider using fairy lights, salt lamps, or candles to create a calm and relaxing atmosphere.

-    Incorporate Your Hobbies: Whether it's a small table for crafting, a yoga mat for stretching, or a shelf with your favorite games and puzzles, make sure your space supports your favorite relaxing activities.

-    Tech-Free Zone: Try to keep this space free from electronics. The goal is to disconnect from the digital world and focus on unwinding. If you must have tech, consider using it for meditation apps or calming music only.

-    Aromatherapy: Scent can significantly impact your mood. Use essential oils, incense, or scented candles to create a calming environment. Lavender, chamomile, and eucalyptus are great options for relaxation. This is another thing you’ll want to do research on since some essential oils are toxic to animals. Always better to be safe when you have pets!

-    Sound Soothers: Soft background music or nature sounds can enhance the serenity of your space. You could use a white noise machine, a small water fountain, or simply play a calming playlist.

Creating a wellness space is all about tailoring it to your personal needs and preferences. It should be a place where you can retreat, relax, and recharge. Remember, the goal is to create an environment that supports your well-being and helps you manage the stresses of daily life. Take the time to invest in yourself and your mental health by carving out this special space in your home.
